3 for the Natives & Visitors

    * Everybody's talking 'bout it. DILO - A Day In The Life Of Ashvegas, aka Asheville. With photos.

    from the flickr website:

Hey all. There are so many wonderful photogs out and about in Asheville that i thought it might be fun to see if we could get as many flickr maniacs together as possible and do one of those "Day in the Life of" projects.

We pick a day - 24 hours - and shoot it. Maybe we have a theme. "Interpret Ashvegas." Maybe not. We should try for spring or early summer.

Then we load all the photos to a flickr group. Maybe we print some of the ones we like the most and do a little show at one of the umpteen galleries around town.

What do you think? What are your ideas? Anybody interested?

If you'd like to participate, check it out. The plans are: Meet, greet, plan, shoot, drink...? as Edgy Mama put it. If you live someplace else, Flickr is a good place to learn more about Asheville. I visit it often.

    * Another place you can visit online that the locals also enjoy is the newly updated Mountain Xpress, Asheville's best alternative weekly newspaper. It's all blogged out and interactive now.

    * And the third link for you is the Asheville IWANNA. It's a Classified Newspaper for ASHEVILLE and WNC. The natives snap it up each week when they're looking for a good deal.

2 arrested as Rising Tide protests North Carolina power plant

Local residents braved the frigid cold this morning perched atop a billboard, to protest Progress Energy’s proposed oil fired plant. They unfurled an enormous banner reading, “Burning Oil Ain’t Progress – No New Power Plant in Woodfin!” The residents are part of Rising Tide North America, a group dedicated to fighting the root causes of climate change. The protest lasted over three hours until local police and fire department forced them down.
